Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I know if my load is an oversize load?
Every state has its own regulations and there are variances within states depending on the routes being travelled. Please contact us to find out whether your load is an Oversize Load.
  2. When do I need a company escort or police escort?
This varies from state to state. The restrictions also change for different routes within a state. To be certain give us a call or email us your dimensions and route and we will inform you of what may be required to move your load.
  3. How will I know what permits will be required for my load?
We will obtain any permits that are required. The cost of this is usually incorporated into your quote. There may be circumstances whereby additional costs are incurred, such as costs to undergo route surveys, detailed drawings of hazards and signage. We will inform you of these before we quote. It is important to remember to give us the correct dimensions as once a permit is obtained it may not be used or changed if the dimensions prove to be incorrect when checked. This can result in additional down time or demurrage costs.
  4. Are there incidences when permits are not granted?
We have not yet had this experience but we have had to wait for a year and do some incredible planning, redoing of drawings etc before getting permits. Regulations are getting more stringent and if an item is too large the client would have to prove that it cannot be split and reassembled on site. Designers of large items need to be aware there are limits to what may be carried by road.
  5. Are there times when oversize loads may not travel?
Yes, there are many regulations as to when an over-dimensional load may travel. This depends on the State, the size of the load, the route it is to take and the other traffic usage on the road. Days before, during and after major holidays such as Easter, Christmas, Anzac Day and Australia Day usually have curfews for oversized loads.
  6. What time period is required to organise an over-dimensional load?
This will vary according to the requirements. We have a long established relationship with all the regulatory organisations but please remember that there are waiting periods for permits, police escorts, power authority permits and company escorts.
  7. What is the difference between demurrage and down time?
Demurrage is a cost incurred when the client causes a delay in the loading or off loading process of the item/items. We usually allow two hours for loading and two hours for off loading of over dimensional items, however this will be stipulated in your quote. Down time is when the truck and trailer is delayed, either with the load, before or after it is loaded due to inclement weather, strike, road closures etc. If transporting items into cyclone areas the timing needs to be considered carefully. Down time can be costly if a truck is held up for hours or a few days.
  8. Do you transport vehicles?
We are not specialised vehicle carriers but have carried vehicles to mine sites for previous clients. For personal vehicles we advise that professional vehicle carriers be contacted.
  9. Do you transport hazardous goods?
No, you will need to contact a specialist company to do this
  10. What happens if my load is damaged during transportation?
We have many insurance covers in place such as public liability insurance, insurance for collision, roll over or fire but the loads do not belong to us so we can not insure the load. It is the responsibility of the client to ensure that their item/items are correctly insured for transportation. We can ‘contract’ to move an item from A to B but we can not guarantee it will get there in one piece. We do however promise to ensure that every step possible is taken to ensure the safety of your item/items and have had very few incidences of damaged goods. It is very important to read our terms and conditions of cartage before transporting an item or items.
  11. Do you transport general house hold goods?
A The quick answer is No. We are not licensed furniture removalists. We have transported personal items for clients up to mine sites as part loads but in general we do not undertake to move household personal items.
  12. Do you transport items that are not over-dimensional?
Many of our loads are not over dimensional but they are usually difficult items or for projects with many items of various sizes. Often we have smaller items delivered to our yard and we store them until such time as there is enough to make a cost efficient load to an isolated site.
  13. Do you do urgent deliveries?
We can do but if it is a very small item it is more cost efficient to contact a specialized courier service.
  14. Do you deliver to regional areas?
    Yes
  15. Does my load have to be a full trailer load?
Not necessarily. We do share trailer with various clients to make it cost effective for them if it possible
